Police raid business for huge cannabis operation

Truro police have uncovered one of the largest cannabis farms in recent years

Police have swooped on a business premises near Truro in a massive drugs seizure operation.

The operation came about as a result of a tip-off from members of the public, who had suspicions that a cannabis farm was in operation inside a derelict building on Chyvelah Road in Threemilestone.

Officers were at the site on Wednesday evening to gain access to the industrial unit.

The premises, which once housed a business by the name Empire Flooring, is located at unit 7 at Victoria Mills industrial estate – there’s no suggestion that anyone associated with this defunct business has any link to this operation.

It is understood the Police were acting on local intelligence to raid the business, which specialised in carpeting and vinyl, wood and laminate flooring.

There was a low-level police presence at the premises, which is opposite the Victoria Inn pub and Vauxhall dealership, as Western Power Distribution was being called in to help deal with the electricity supply.

The police believed there was a cannabis growing operation worth up to £150,000 inside and were due to return to enter on Thursday morning.

Police arrived at the Empire Flooring premises in Chyvelah Road in Threemilestone and spent the evening securing the building and making it safe to enter, with the help of Western Power Distribution. The team of officers then entered the site this morning to begin their investigation and the seizure of the cannabis plants.

The police recounted how they had to force entry and had specialist teams on hand to deal with any eventuality.

The value is said to be about £150,000.
