Police bust one of the biggest cannabis farms in Cornwall in several years

Police have busted a large-scale cannabis-growing operation in a polytunnel. About 400 plants were found in the raid in the White Cross area on the outskirts of Newquay.

The plants were said to be more than 6ft tall and on the verge of being harvested.

Four people were arrested at the scene on Thursday afternoon (September 5) on suspicion of being involved with growing cannabis.

Inspector Dave Meredith,, said: “This was a substantial cannabis cultivation and one on the largest cannabis grows the police have located in Cornwall for several years.

“This cannabis crop was due to be harvested in the next few weeks and we are fortunate to have located it before it was harvested and moved elsewhere. Large-scale cannabis grows such as this generate considerable revenue for criminals gangs and are often linked to organised crime groups.

  • “Newquay police are committed to tackling the supply of controlled drugs and I am delighted that we have prevented such a large amount of drugs from entering the supply chain.

The people arrested were a male aged 66 and a female aged 68, who live at the site, and two males aged 39 and 50 from Surrey. They were all in terviewed at Newquay police station and released on bail pending further police enquiries.

Mr Meredith tweeted: “Big cannabis grow located on the outskirts of Newquay today. Biggest seizure for quite a while. More pressure on the drug dealers!”
