POLICE SEIZE 400 CANNABIS PLANTS DURING TOWN CENTRE RAID
Two men have been arrested on suspicion of producing cannabis after police officers raided a property in Leamington Spa town centre on Wednesday morning (January 19).
Warwickshire Police executed the raid at about 9am and seized over 300 cannabis plants from across five floors of the former Coventry Building Society in Bath Street.
The force say electricity had been bypassed inside the property.
The road was temporarily closed while police carried out the operation, with Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service also attending in support.
Photos posted by Leamington Safer Neighbourhoods Team showed that a glass door had been smashed.
“As part of Leamington Safer Neighbourhood Teams efforts to tackle drug dealing and use in the area we have this morning executed a drugs warrant on Bath Street in Leamington Spa.
“At around 9am with more than capable assistance from Warwickshire Police’s ‘Tactical Support Team’ we forced entry to a premises and located a large cannabis grow containing over 300 plants.
“Two males were arrested and are currently being held in police custody while the investigation continues.
There is still a police presence in the area with road closures in place while the premises is made safe. We thank the public for their patience as we know this is causing delays in the area.”
A WFRS spokeswoman said: “We were asked to assist the police in the execution of a drugs warrant. Our involvement was to provide a survey of the roof space to assist the Police.
“We were at the scene for a little over an hour.”
Warwickshire Police confirmed that a 27-year-old man of no fixed abode and a 23-year-old man from Leamington Spa have been arrested on suspicion of producing cannabis.
They remain in custody.
